Abstract
PURPOSE: To lighten the color of a polymer of vinylpyridine quaternary salt, without affecting its characteristics, by irradiating with UV radiation or solar radiation or solar radiation.
CONSTITUTION: A polymer of a vinylpyridine quaternary salt obtained by reacting (A) a homopolymer of vinylpyridine base of formula I (R1 is H or alkyl) or a copolymer of the vinylpyridine and a compound of formula II (Y is H, halogen, alkyl, CN, phenyl, etc.; R2 is H or methyl), with (B) a compound of formula R3 -X (R3 is alkyl, alkenyl, etc,; X is halogen, etc.), is irradiated with UV radiation from a high-pressure mercury lamp, etc.
