Abstract
PURPOSE: To keep the flow rate of supplied oil to a power steering unit constant even if the discharge of an oil pump increases after the flow rate is reduced to a prescribed level, by providing a spool valve with a small-diameter part which covers an orifice when the spool valve is actuated.
CONSTITUTION: When the discharge of the oil pump increases, the spool valve 3 is actuated against a spring 3 by the reduction in the cross-sectional area of the orifice 10 to connect a high-pressure chamber 5 with a bypass prot 14. As a result, a part of oil discharged from the oil pump is returned to the suction port of the pump through a passage 12, the high-pressure chamber 5 and the bypass port 14, and the small-diameter part 15 covers the orifice 10 with a prescribed gap a in response to the rightward displacement of the spool valve 3. Thus, the restriction effect of the orifice and the flow rate of the returned oil rise and the flow rate of the supplied oil falls to an almost constant level.
