Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high capacity, long life and cheap electrode by employing fiber metal obtained by mechanically cutting a metal not fusable in the alkali electrolyte as electrode base material. CONSTITUTION:An iron rod is rotated by means of motor and diamond cutters having the tips of approx. 20mu width are arranged in one row to be contacted with the circumference of the iron rod to obtain iron fiber having average diameter of 20mu and the length of 100cm. A lot of said iron fiber is bundled and laminated uniformly then pressed to obatin a metallic felt of approx. 3mm depth. Then it is held in hydrogen flow of 980 deg.C for about 30 min. to obtain a sintered body. Then the face of said porous iron body is entirely applied with nickel galvanization and cut to predetermined size, then the terminal board is welded to obtain an electrode substrate.
