Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a steel material remarkably improved in hydrogen cracking resistance, by rolling and finishing a steel of prescribed composition having been heated at a temp. not lower than the A3 transformation point, by conducting further composition control through cooling at a suitable accelerated rate. CONSTITUTION:A steel comprising 0.03-0.15% C, 0.01-0.6% Si, 0.5-1.6% Mn, <=0.020% P, <=0.010% S, 0.005-0.1% Al, 0.01-0.1% Nb, 0.1-0.6% Mo, contg. additionally, if necessary, at least one member of Cu, Ni, Cr, V, Ti, Ca in respectively prescribed ratio, is heated at a temp. 950-1,200 deg.C to refine the austenite grains thereof. Then the steel is rolled at a finishing temp. not lower than the A3 transformation point in unrecrystallizing region, i.e., at a temp. 850-760 deg.C, at a cumulative reduction ratio not smaller than 40%. The steel sheet having been rolled is cooled from a temp. 830-750 deg.C to a temp. 650-440 deg.C at an accelerated rate of 3-20 deg.C/sec. so that the steel sheet surface structure contains not less than 30% bainite, thereby producing nonrefined steel sheet.
