Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent impurities floating on molten metal from being included and mixed into the molten metal by making the rotating speed of the molten metal in the mold being rotated by electromagnetic force maximum near the molten metal surface in performing casting. CONSTITUTION:The electromagnetic coil 2 to be mounted in a mold 1 is bisected to upper and lower halves. The upper electromagnetic coil 2 and lower electrode magnetic coil 2' are made electrically independent and the number of poles of the upper electromagnetic coil 2 is larger than that of the lower one. Hence, when current is flowed to the electromagnetic coils 2, 2', the rotating speed of the molten metal 3 rotated by the electromagnetic force of the upper electromagnetic coil 2 becomes faster than the rotating speed of the molten metal 3 rotated by the electromagnetic force of the lower electromagnetic coil 2'. Namely, the rotating speed of the molten metal 3 near the molten metal surface in the mold 1 becomes faster as compared to the rotating speed of the molten metal 3 of other portions. Hence, unlike in conventional methods, the molten metal does not flow by dividing to above and below with the portion where the rotating speed is maximum as a boundary and therefore the inclusion and entry of the impurities of the molten metal 3 in the central part of the mold are considerably reduced.
