Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an inserter for ink jet printer which permits simple and accurate detection of the width of a paper by detecting the position the mobile pocket determined relative to the fixed pocket according to the width of the paper.
CONSTITUTION: A fixed pocket is fixed to a guide 1 fixed on a machine frame along which a mobile pocket 3 is provided in such a manner as to be free to slide. The mobile pocket 3 is positioned relative to the fixed pocket according to the width of a paper. Consequently, a ball provided at an arm section 5 of the mobile pocket 3 engages one of numerous conical holes on the top surface of the guide 1 whereby the mobile pocket 3 is locked. A switch actuator 23 fixed to the arm section 5 actuates that of microswitches provided in large numbers on the back of the guide corresponding to the position. Thus, the width of the paper is detected.
