Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the influcences from gravity thereby to enhance the reliability of a measured value by holding the flat plane including the curved axis of a fuel rod under a horizontal condition thereby to detect the dislocated distance from the reference plane of the outer circumference.
CONSTITUTION: When a fuel rod shifted from a supply table 15 to a preset measuring position is placed on a supporting member formed with a V-shaped groove, its end taps 12 and 13 are supported rotatably on respective tap receivers so that the rod 10 is supported rotatably about its axis when the supporting member is moved down. As a result, the curved axis is allowed to rotate such that it is placed in the vertical plane which is normal to the plane including the curved axis of the fuel rod. Then, a supporting table 16 including a pair of right and left pushing mechanisms 20 is raised, until the axis of the rod 10 comes to the same level of the supporting positions of the end taps 12 and 13, to abut against the lower surface of the rod 10, and the mechanism 20 is moved down to abut against the upper surface of the rod 10. Then, a curvature measuring mechanism 21 approaches in a horizontal direction to measure the curvature of the rod 10.
