Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect the supporting member from heat effects even when temperature changes occur in the light source device, by limiting the thermal variations of laser source and supporting member of collimator lens within the allowable depth of focus of the collimator lens.
CONSTITUTION: The coefficients of thermal expansion of the first supporting member consisting of collimator holding ring 90 and roller bearing 78, etc., the second supporting member of outer tube 91a, and the third supporting member for the base 123 of a semiconductor laser element 73 are, respectively, supposed to be α1, α2, α3, and the thermal fluctuation coefficient of the focal length of the collimator lens unit to be K, and the lengths of the first, second and third supporting members to be L1, L2, L3. When it is so set that t×[(L2×α2+L3×α3)+K)×α1]<depth of focus of collimator lens unit, the fluctuations of the length L1 are always kept within the depth of focus of the collimator lens unit, so that the light source device may be free from heat effects.
