Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the granular cellulose gel material having fine pore distribution characteristics and mechanical stability by dissolving cellulose in an aqueous solution of calcium thicyanate, etc. and letting the same disperse in an organic solvent then desalting the same.
CONSTITUTION: Cellulose raw materials such as of hulp or the like for rayon production are dissolved about 1W15% in the aqueous calcium salt solution composed primarily of calcium thiocynate (containing calcium acid at about 50W60% as anhydride) and the solution is cooled to gel. This is ground and is dispersed in an organic solvent such as of carbon tetrachloride added with a small amount of surfactants. Next, this is mixed with a dispersion solution and a solvent such as methanol or other which dissolves calcium salt is added to desalte the same, after which it is washed with water. This method yields the cellulose gels of granular or beads form useful for gel filtration, ion exchange, chromatography, etc.
