Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent decarburization during sintering process and produce the sintered steel parts of superior mechanical properties by sintering the iron base material containing easy-to-oxide elements in a N2 atmosphere comprising beforehand adding some reducing gas to decrease O2 partial pressure.
CONSTITUTION: The iron base material containing C; 0.2W1.5wt%, easy-to-oxidize elements of one or more kinds of Mn, Cr, Si; 0.5wt% respectively is sintered in the range of maximum holding temperatures 1200W1250°C. This sintering atmosphere is constituted by CO and H2 0.1W5vol% respectively, CH4; 0W3vol%, the rest N2 and CO2, H2O balancing with these gases. Next, this sintered body is cooled down to 400°C or under at cooling rates of 30°C/min. or higher, particularly 100°C/min., whereby the intended sintered part is produced.
