Abstract

PURPOSE: To prolong service life by alternately using both right and left edge parts of the cleaning blade.
CONSTITUTION: An elastic cleaning blade 2 which has left and right edge parts 21, 22 and is provided with a length direction defining member 9 for preventing excess toner from going to the back is removably mounted to a blade holder 3 which is provided with a horizontal part 4, perpendicular part 5, retaining fittings 6, pressure plate 7 and auxiliary plate 8. The elastic cleaning blade 2 is so mounted to the blade holder 3 that its left edge part 21 makes sliding contact with an image carrier 1. The developer remaining on the surface of the image carrier 1 is cleaned with the left edge part 21. When the left edge part 21 has worn, the elastic cleaning blade 2 is remounted to let its right edge part 22 make sliding contact to the image carrier 1 in performing cleaning of the developer. Thereby, the service role for two sheets is achieved with one sheet of the blade.
