Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve sealing performance of a shielding plug and to ensur safe operation of a nuclear power plant using a liquid-metal cooled reactor, by selecting the coefficient of linear expansion at the outer wall of a seal tub of freezing seal system greater than that at the inner of the seal tub.
CONSTITUTION: When operation of nuclear reactor is started, freezing seal alloy in molten condition is solidfied and its temperature is lowered further by about several tens degrees. With this temperature drop of the alloy, annular space formed between inner wall 27 and outer wall 24 of freezing seal tub 21 causes contraction at the contact surface of sealing alloy 23 and tub 21 since coefficient of linear expansion is greater at outer wall 24 than at inner wall 27, so that inner and outer walls 27, 24 of tub 21 are held in forced contact with solidified sealing alloy filled in the annular space. Therefore, sealingness at the contact surface between sealing alloy 23 and freezing seal tub 21 can be improved greatly at the time when the sealing alloy 23 is solidified.
