Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the title fiber with little transmission loss by forming parts of the inner wall of a quartz reaction tube for clad and core with three components, SiO2, a refractive index increasing additive and a refractive index reducing additive to prevent impurities from mixing into the fiber. CONSTITUTION:Feed valves 12, 14, 16 of Ar pipings leading to evaporators 11, 13, 15 are opened to support SiCl4, a refractive index increasing additive and a refractive index reducing additive on Ar, and feed valve 17 of O2 piping is simultaneously opened. The materials are fed into quartz glass reaction tube 18 and oxidized by heating with burner 19 to deposit a glass layer made of SiO2 contg. a necessary amt. of the additives in an amt. required to form a clad layer. Next the flow rates of the three components are changed to add the additives to SiO2 so that a refractive index vlaue needed for formation of a core part is obtd., and a glass layer made of this SiO2 is deposited in an amt. required to form the core part. Valves 12, 14, 16, 17 are then closed, and burner 19 and tube 18 are shifted to made the layers solid. The resulting base material is spun.
