Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a backup roll material consisting of a specified ratio of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Mo, V and the balance Fe and having superior spalling resistance as well as wear resistance.
CONSTITUTION: The backup roll material consists of, by wt., C 0.55W0.95%, e.g., 0.80%, Si 0.15W1.6%, e.g., 0.56%, Mn 0.15W1.6%, e.g. 0.88%, Ni≤0.99%, e.g., ≤0.11%, Cr 2.0W5.0%, e.g. 3.58%, Mo 0.5W1.2%, e.g., 0.84%, V 0.2W0.8%, e.g., 0.30%, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. The impurities include P, S, etc., and it is required that the P content is about 0.035wt% or less and the S content about 0.040% or less. This material is esp. excellent in fatigue crack propagation and has superior spalling and wear resistances.
