Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the castings of smooth casting surfaces and high dimensional accuracy to be obtained by adding a colloidal Al2O3 solution to refractory particles for base material of mold sand and drying the same to form Al2O3 covering layers on the particle surfaces then mixing the specified chemicals and water to prepare the mold material and setting the mold formed by this with CO2.
CONSTITUTION: After a colloidal Al2O3 solution is added to refractory particles for base material of mold sand (e.g., zircon sand of 100 to 200 mesh in grain size), it is dried, whereby the layers impregnated with the colloidal Al2O3 are formed on the particle surfaces. Next, oxycarboxylate and Ca(OH)2 or CaO and water are mixed to the refractory particles having these covering layers to prepare the mold material. Thence, the mold formed by this mold material is set with CO2. This mold is high in strength, permits setting in arbitrary time and provides good moldability.
