Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent oxidation through free contact with the atmosphere and produce the sound casting product by substituting the atmosphere in a molten metal pouring member with an inert gas atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A nozzle 20 filled with (porous) refractories having many voids is provided to the inside surface of a shutter 18 which is made to a hollow frame body of approximate quadrilateral. The gas fed into the device 18 by an inert gas feeder 19 is spouted enenly inward through this nozzle 20. Here it forms a flat inert gas flow curtain 21, thereby accomplishing the shut-off of the inside and outside. Inert gas such as nitrogen, argon or other is flowed in through the inert gas feed pipe 19. The inside 15 of the mold 1, the inside of a spout 4, etc. are filled with the inert gas over their entire part under the inside and outside shut-off, thus the molten steel out from a ladle 5 progresses from pouring up to freezing without making contact to the atmosphere.
