Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent oxidation through free contact with the atmosphere and produce the sound casting product by substituting the atmosphere in a molten metal pouring member with an inert gas atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A nozzle 20 filled with (porous) refractories having many voids is provided to the inside surface of a shutter 18 which is made to a hollow frame body of approximate quadrilateral. The gas fed into the device 18 by an inert gas feeder 19 is spouted enenly inward through this nozzle 20. Here it forms a flat inert gas flow curtain 21, thereby accomplishing the shut-off of the inside and outside. Inert gas such as nitrogen, argon or other is flowed in through the inert gas feed pipe 19.
