Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a carcinostatic agent having exceedingly low toxicity, consisting mainly of a specific benzaldehyde derivative. CONSTITUTION:A carcinostatic agent consisting mainly of a benzaldehyde derivative of the formula [X is H or OH; when X is H, Y is OH or N(CH3)2 and when X is OH, Y is OH] (e.g. p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde or 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde). The mechanism of its carcinostatic action is not clear, however, it is considered as the similar action to that of benzaldehyde having carcinostatic activity. The agent is highly carcinostatic and has exceedingly low acute toxicity, and can be administered by any methods.
