Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the friction coefficient of a brush and the fluctuation in the coefficient, by simultaneously mixing powder of high-purity graphite with powder of aluminium and silica which have prescribed grain diameters and by adding a thermosetting resin as a binder to the mixuture and baking the final mixture at a temperature not higher than a prescribed value.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of high-purity graphite, the ash content of which is 0.3% or less, is prepared as main material. The powder is mixed with 0.5∼5.0% by weight of granular aluminium having a grain diameter not larger than 200 mesh and with 0.05∼0.5% by weight of silica SiC having grain diameter of 100∼600 mesh, simultaneously. A thermosetting resin is added as binder to the mixture. The final mixture is then shaped under pressure. The shaped mixture is baked and sintered at a temperature not higher than 350°C, thereby manufacturing a brush which has a small friction coefficient, the fluctuation in which is low.
