Abstract

PURPOSE: To ease the strict dimensional tolerances of fitting parts and obtain rigid coupling of metal pipes by forming a solder coated layer thicker than the fitting part of an outside pipe to the fitting part of an inner pipe of a pair of metal pipes having the fitting part.
CONSTITUTION: For example, the respective end parts of an outer pipe 1 of copper with an expanded end part and an inner pipe 2 of Al are dipped in a zinc-base alloy solder bath 3 containing a small amount of Al, and vibrations are given from an ultrasonic horn 4. When they are pulled up from the solder bath after a fixed time, the solder coated layers 5a, 5b are formed. At this time, in order to make the latter thicker than the former, the solder bath temperature at the forming of the latter is made near the melting point of the solder lower than the case of the former. Next, the pipes 1, 2 are fitted together and are heated with a gas burner 7, during which time vibrations are given thereto with an ultrasonic horn 6 to allow the solder to fit to the pipes. The coated layer 5a flows down owing to heating and fills the clearance of the fitting part. After a fixed time, the fitting part is cooled to set the solder.
