Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title sizing agent having improved water resistance and adhesivity, and excellent stability, by mixing a positively charged specific thermosetting resin to starch.
CONSTITUTION: A sizing agent obtained by mixing (A) 100 parts by weight of starch and (B) pref. 0.5W10 parts by weight of a positively charged thermosetting resin composed of (a) a water-dispersible resin obtained by the radical emulsion polymerization of (a1) a copolymerizable ethylenic unsaturated monomer having a secondary and/or tertiary amino groups (e.g. N-methylaminoethyl acrylate) and (a2) other copolymerizable ethylenic unsaturated monomer (e.g. methyl acrylate) in an aqueous medium, and (b) an epihalohydrin such as epichlorohydrin, or a polyepoxide such as (poly)ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether.
