Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A dipeptide-type cephem derivative of formula I: (R1 is H, lower alkyl group, etc.; R2 is H, lower alkyl group, etc.; R3 is amino or lower alkyl substituent on the thiazole ring at the 2- or 5-position; R4 is five-membered ring having 2W4 hetero atoms which may be substituted by a lower alkyl group), or its salt.
EXAMPLE: 7β- [2- (2-Aminopropionamido) -2- (2-aminothiazol-4-yl) -actamido] -3- (1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl) thiomethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
USE: Antibacterials having a great antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, particularly Gram-negative bacilli.
PROCESS: A dipeptide or amino acid is neacted with pivaloyl chloride in a solvent, e.g. THF, to give a mixed acid anhydride, which is reacted with a compound of formula I. The protecting proup is eliminated to form the title compound of formula I.
