Abstract

PURPOSE: To make moldings with good dimensional stability and relatively complicated shape by inserting, pressurizing and heating a bridge forming ethylene foam polymer sheet having a specific range of gel percentage in one couple of metallic molds.
CONSTITUTION: A bridge forming ethylene foam polymer sheet 60W98% in mol percentage is inserted between a couple of metallic molds and heated at maximum temperatures of 130W220°C under pressurization. This method is available for molding of products more than 5mm thick and also for deep drawing more than 1/2 in rate. For example, a bridge forming sheet foam 90% in gel percentage, 10 times in expansion ratio and 10mm in thickness which is obtained from ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer 1.5 in melt index and calcium carbonate (15wt%) is preheated at 80W100°C and inserted in a couple of metallic molds in the shape of bicycle saddle. After heating the metallic molds at 160°C for 15 minutes, the product is taken out.
