Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the return of liquid to a compressor, by directly sucking a gas coolant into the compressor when the coolant flows in a pipe and by conducting a liquid coolant to a bypass pipe when the liquid coolant flows in the former pipe, exchanging heat between the liquid coolant and discharged gas in the discharge pipe of the compressor and sucking the coolant in the form of gas into the compressor.
CONSTITUTION: A gas coolant is sucked from the side of a screen 3, passes around a float of higher specific gravity than the gas coolant and is sucked into a compressor (not shown in Fig.) through the opening of a stopper 4. When a liquid coolant is sucked from the side of the screen 3, the float 2 of smaller specific gravity than the liquid coolant is buoyed up toward the stopper 4 and held in contact therewith. Therefore, a part of the liquid coolant flows through the gap on the stopper 4 while the other part of the liquid coolant flows into the bypass pipe 5 as shown by an arrow of large width. The latter liquid coolant part is then heat- exchanged with high-temperature discharged gas in the discharge pipe 6 of the compressor so that the coolant is evaporated. The evaporated coolant is then conducted into a pipe 1 and sucked into the compressor. The liquid is completely prevented from returning to the compressor.
