Abstract

PURPOSE: To process definitely data on a recording medium by forcing a reader to switch in accordance with the conveyance of the recording medium and then by switching the reader on detecting a space by a detecting mechanism when a recording medium with a space stage is conveyed.
CONSTITUTION: A transportation mechanism conveys recording miedum 1 with data recorded over several stages along conveyance path 2 and reading heads 11aW 11c of readers 10aW10c arranged on conveyance path 2 read data at assigned stages. Those read data are supplied through multiplexer 15 to data processing circuit 14 which processes transferred data. Then, readers 10aW10c are switched circularly in fixed order by multiplexer 15. Then, counter circuit 17 connected to the multiplexer 15 and detectors 9aW9c which detect data at each stage arranged on conveyance path 2 are provided and outputs of detectors 9aW9c are supplied to multiplexer 15 through circuit 17 while data stored in recognition parts 12aW 12c of readers 10aW10c are supplied to circuit 14.
