Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a liquid crystal composition which can be driven at a relatively low voltage, and useful as a displaying material of wrist watch, by mixing a nematic liquid crystal composition having a positive dieletric anisotropy higher than a specific value, the cloride of a Schiff base or of an ester-type liquid crystal material, and an ester having three benzene rings.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal composition prepared by mixing (A) a nematic liquid crystal composition having a dielectric anisotropy of ≥+18, (B) a compound of formula I (R is 1W5C straight chain alkyl; X is -CH=H- or -COO-), and (C) a compound of formula II (R is R' are 1W5C straignt chain alkyl). Since the composition can be driven at a voltage of as low as about 1.5V, a voltage-boosting circuit is eliminated, the driving circuit is simplified, and the electrical power consumption is largely reduced enabling the use of a small-capacity cell which is most advantageous in the field of wrist watch.
