Abstract

CONSTITUTION: To a solution, preferably aqueous solution, of phenylalanine, is added xylenesulfonic acid or its salt to crystallize out the phenylalanine xylenesulfonate. The salt is separated and the aqueous solution is adjusted in pH to the isoelectric point using an alkali to decompose the salt and crystallize out the phenylalanine. The phenylalanine is separated by filtration or other procedure. This method can be applied to the hydrolyzate of protein containing phenylalanine or fermentation mixture.
