Abstract

PURPOSE: To throughly activate a water absorbent by providing the absorbent near the sealing part of a bulb and heating the sealed part by radiant heat to seal the bulb.
CONSTITUTION: An absorbent 11, such as activated alumina, is contained in a net bag 10 formed of fine net and provided encircling a flared tube 9 of a stem 3. In sealing the bulb 1 by heating a sealing part, infrared rays radiated by a quartz sheathed heater 17 penetrate through the bulb 1 and heat the absorbent 11 to a temperature as high as 400°C which is sufficient for activating the absorbent 11. Water which has been absorbed in the absorbent 11 is discharged as the absorbent is heated and is acitvated.
