Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a high viscosity power transmission fluid having excellent high temperature viscosity characteristics and high coefficient of rolling friction, useful for the hydraulic transmission of automobiles, containing a specific polycyclohexyl compound.
CONSTITUTION: The title fluid containing one or more compounds of formula (R is H or 1W4C alkyl; m is 1W4; the total carbon number of Rm is 1W4; R1,2 is H or methyl; R3,4 are H, methyl, or ethyl; R5,6 are H or methyl; n is 1W3). The compound can be prepared, e.g. by (1) alkylating an unsaturated oligomer such as styrene (homo-oligomer or co-oligomer with a polymerization degree of 2W4) with an alkylbenzene (alkyl is 1W4C) in the presence of an acid catalsyt such as mineral acid, at 0W200°C, and (2) hydrogenating the product optionally in the presence of an inert solvent such as paraffin, to eliminate the aromatic component.
