Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely burn fuel even if the composition of the fuel fluctuates, decrease the quantity of excess air and attain a high combustion efficiency, by controlling the quantity of the fuel or air so that an electrical current flowing through a flame between detection electrodes is always at a peak level.
CONSTITUTION: The fuel and air are mixed with each other in a mixing chamber 3. The mixture is burned by a burner 5 while the flame 6 is maintained. A voltage is applied from a power source 17 to the burner 5 and a detector 7 so that the burner 5 serves as a reference electrode and the detector 7 serves as an anode. The ionic current flowing through the flame is smoothed by a capacitor 13 and then supplied to a zero point control circuit 16, which performs such control that the terminal voltage of a resistor 12 is at a peak level, namely, the ionic current is at a peak level. A minimum quantity of air is supplied to the burner through a bypass 4 and secondary air holes 8 to burn fuel not yet completely burned.
