Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a heat-stable fluorocarboxylic acid ester having a low surface energy, in high yield, by carrying out one-step reaction of a perfluoroolefin with a specific halogenated aldehyde acid ester in an aprotic solvent in the presence of a metal fluoride.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorocarboxylic acid ester is prepared by the heat reaction of a perfluoroolefin, e.g. tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene, etc., with a halogenated glyoxalic acid ester of the formula (X is F, Cl, Br, etc.; R is hydrocarbon residual group) in an aprotic solvent, e.g. diglyme, triglyme, etc., in the presence of a metal fluoride, preferably an alkali metal fluoride, e.g. cesium fluoride, potassium fluoride, etc. Preferably the reaction temperature is 80W170°C for cesium fluoride and ≥120°C for potassium fluoride.
