Abstract

PURPOSE: The external part for portable watches of superior mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and mirror-smooth gloss obtainable by adding the specific amounts of Cr, Fe, Al to Ni base material.
CONSTITUTION: The Ni base alloy containing Cr; 25 to 45%, Fe; 1 to 10% and Al; 2 to 5%. The Ni-Cr-Fe-Al alloy of the abovementioned composition is melted and is fabricated to a case for portable watches. After this is heated for 2 hours at 1250°C, it is water-cooled and is further heat-treated for 2 hours at 700°C in Ar gas atmosphere. It is then air-cooled and age-hardened. This case has high hardness of 650 to 700 in hardness Hv and has superior corrosion resistance as well. When it is mirror-surface-finished, it exhibits the gloss having the unique depth.
