Abstract
PURPOSE: The external part for portable watches which is obtainable by forming the boride layer of the specific metal on the surface of the molding of the specific metal and is superior in not only corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance and scratch resistance but in impact resistance and design freedom as well.
CONSTITUTION: A case for portable watches is made by metals such as Ti, Nb, Ta, Hf, V, W, Mo, Zr, Cr, etc. or their alloys. Or the case is made of austenite base stainless steel, brass, German silver, etc. and the film of the metals such as of the abovementioned Ti, etc. or their alloys is formed on the surface thereof by plating, etc. Next, the covering of the boride of said metals is formed by an ion plating method,activated reactive vapor deposition method or sputtering method. Since it is not a sintered body, it is superior in impact resistance, permits fabrication to shapes of a variety of designs and has the superior decorative tone intrinsic to borides, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance and scratch resistance.
