Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve machinability and enable steel wool of high elasticity and high corrosion resistance to be stably obtained by making composite addition of the specific amounts of S and Ca to steel and controlling the other component contents through carbon equivalents.
CONSTITUTION: The steel is component-controlled so that it contains S; 0.05 to 0.15%, Ca; 0.0060% and if necessary Cu; 0.1 to 0.3% and that its carbon equivalent Ceq=C+0.3Si+0.2(Mn+Cu)+1.2P+7N becomes 0.40 to 0.70. A preferable component range is C; 0.08 to 0.25%, Si≤0.15%, Mn≤1.2%, P≤0.12%, N≤ 0.0200%. The steel material of this composition has good machinability and prolongs tool life in producing steel wool. By this steel material, the steel wool of high elasticity and corrosion resistance is produced by being curled in small and divided without coiling to the tool.
