Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the bar steel of superior toughness for shafts without undergoing annealing and without adding costly Nb, etc. by applying the specific heat treatment to high Mn steel. CONSTITUTION:The steel ingot containing C; 0.26 to 0.60%, Si; 0.15 to 0.35%, Mn; 0.60 to 1.80%, Cr<0.30%, sol.At; 0.06% is produced. Mn is contained relatively in large amount in order to suppress the harm of S being an impurity and afford toughness to the steel material. This is the important necessary additive element when the steel material is to be used only through hot rolling without undergoing annealing. This steel bloom is heated to 950 to 1100 deg.C to finely grain the austenite crystal grains. The final hot rolling is accomplished within a temperature range of 750 to 900 deg.C, whereby the bar steel of superior toughness and ductility such as elongation, rate of drawing, impact value, etc. suited for shaft members such as long-length shafts, etc. is produced. The bar steel may be inexpensively produced only through hot rolling without using any additive element such as Nb and other.
