PURPOSE:To diminish the crop loss, and to improve the product yield, by first rolling so as to reduce the thickness of the middle portion of the slab breadth at a greater rate than the reduction of thickness at the lateral edge portions, and then, by carrying out the broadside rolling to obtain the uniform thickness of the sheet. CONSTITUTION:The continuously cast slab 8 is discharged from the continuous casting machine 7 and is introduced into the rolling mill 1; in which, the slab 8 is rolled by the middle convexed reducing roll 2 so as to make the rolling reduction at the middle portion 9 of the breadth of the slab 8 to be greater than the reduction at the broadside edges of the slab 8.
