Abstract

PURPOSE: A slurry of inert inorganic particles in ethylene glycol is specifically treated and added to the system for making polyester, thus producing polyester suitably used for magnetic tape because of low turbidity and high slippage.
CONSTITUTION: A slurry of inert inorganic particles of less than 7 micronparticle size, preferably silicon oxide of less than 3 micron particle size, and 0.01W20wt%, based on the inorganic particles, of a dimethyl or diphenyl polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene copolymer in ethylene glycol is subjected to high-speed agitation with the product of peripheral speed (m/sec) × time (sec) of over 4000, using a high speed stirrer equipped with a plurality of shear blades 3 paralleling with the revolution direction, blade shaft 1 and stirring blade 2, etc., and/or supersonic wave treatment with waves of 20W1,000 kiloherz frequency.
