Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an electrostatic precipitator from explosion, by analyzing by a high speed analyzer the inflammable waste gas discharged from a converter before the gas enters the precipitator in order to determine the composition, and by operating a selector valve by the output signal of the analyzer to change the flow path of the waste gas to a wet dust collector set in a bypass. CONSTITUTION:CO-contg. waste gas discharged from a converter 1 is cooled by a cooler 4 and is released through a preparatory wet dust collector 6, an emergency selector valve 11a, an electrostatic precipitator 7, and an emergency selector valve 11b to a chimney 10 by an induced draft fan 8, or delivered to a waste gas utilization unit by the operation of a three way valve 9. In that case, waste gas samples are collected continuously at the detecting element 14 set at the inlet of the preparatory wet dust collector 6, and analyzed by a high speed gas analyzer 5 to determine the CO and O2 contained in the waste gas. When the ratio of CO to O2 is in the explosion limit, a signal is immediately given to change emergency selector valves 11a, 11b so as to change the flow path of the waste gas to a wet dust collector 12 set in the bypath, hereby preventing previously the waste gas explosion in the electrostatic precipitator due to the ignition caused by sparks etc.
