Abstract

PURPOSE: The title drug capable of reducing lipids in the blood and liver remarkably without side effects, comprising a specific high polymer compound having a nitrogen-containing compound combined with a bifunetional compound as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: A drug comprising (A) a high polymer compound which is a crosslinked polymer of (a) a bifunctional compound of formula I: [y is -CH2X (X is Cl, I, etc.); group of formula II: M is single bond, -CH2-O-CH2-, etc.; Z is -CH(OH)-CH2X, or group of formula II], e.g. epichlorohydrin, and (b) a nitrogen- containing compound, or its nontoxic salt as an active constituent. As for (b), NH3, ethylenediamine, or polyethylene-polyamine having a repeating degree of 2W1,500 may be cited. 20% or more of nitrogen atoms in the polymer are quaternary ammonium salts linked to lower alkyl groups. The drug is useful as a cholesterol absorption inhibitor.
