Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the production of a big crack and a leakage by chemically polishing the opening end of luminous bulb to remove a fine crack and strain.
CONSTITUTION: The end opening of luminous bulb made of polycrystal or single crystal alumina is sealed with a blockade through solder glass after chemical polishing. In the chemical polishing, borax 11 in the crucible 10 is heated and melted, one end of the alumina tube 13 of the bulb 1 is dipped in the melted liquid to polish the surface of tube. After this, borax attached to the tube is washed with heated dilute hydrochloric acid, which is washed with water. By this polishing, the opening end is made a status shown by full line in Figure, fine cracks and strain remained on the surface are removed.
