Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the captioned wheel which is light in weight, is free from forging defects and is improved in rigidity and strength by rotating an intermediate blank of a block-form unfinished state whose rim part alone is thick in the radial direction and notching the rim part through pressing with a roller then forming the same to the specified section.
CONSTITUTION: A wheel blank W for vehicles such as motor cycles, etc., is made of Al alloy and its hub part W1, spork part W2 and space W3 between the same parts are formed to finished shapes at the time of forging. A ring-form rim part W4 is flat in its outside diameteral part W5 and is of approximately thick-walled T- form. This intermediate blank W is fitted and held between upper and lower dies 3, 4 and is rotation driven, thence the sharp angled edge part 17a of the first roller 17 is pressed to the width central part of the outside diameter part W5, whereby a V-shape notch W6 is formed. Next, the notch W6 is force expanded with the dull angled edge part of the second roller in the similar manner. Following to this, the expanded rim part is pressed with forming rollers 19, 20, 20 and is formed to the final sectional shape by the forming grooves 5 of the dies 3, 4.
