Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a glucan derivative and its boric acid inclusion compound useful for a carcinostatic substance, easily soluble in water and capable of making an aqueous solution scarcely being gelled by Smith decomposition of neutral polysaccharide produced by a basidiomycete of corticiaceae.
CONSTITUTION: A neutral polysaccharide produced by a basidiomycete of corticiaceae, for example, cortican as a starting material, undergoes Smith decomposition which is utilized in the decomposition of polysaccharide, preferably is treated with sodium periodate and reduced by sodium boron hydride to give a glucan derivative and its boric acid inclusion compound. The glucon derivative has a straight chain (1→3)β-D-glucan as a basic skeleton, wherein hydroxyl groups at 6 six position are replaced by 2-hydroxy-1-(1,3-dihydroxyprop-2-yloxy)ethyl group as substituent groups in a proportion of 2 per 6W7 of the constituent glucose.
