Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst for oxidation showing high activity at low temperature by depositing a solution containing noble metal, base metal and organic material on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:An organic merial such as carboxylic acid and a compound of base metal selected from Groups Ib, IVa, VIIa and VIII of the Periodic Table are added to a solution of noble metal compound such as platinum, rhodium. The resulting solution is deposited on a carrier such as silica, alumina by an impregnation method, etc. The carrier is dried, calcined and reduced with hydrogen to produce a catalyst. The catalyst exhibits high activity at low temperature and is useful for the catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide and for the oxidation of hydrocarbons.
