Abstract
PURPOSE: To simultaneously consolidate and strengthen the ground at the same time when piping, by connecting a set-pipe caontaining a stopper to a rotating shaft of a drift-boring machine installed at a launching pit.
CONSTITUTION: A drift-boring machine 4 is installed on a base plate 1 secured on a base concrete 3 of a launching pit 12, and a set-pipe 2 containing a stopper B is connected to a rotating shaft 11 of the machine 11 through the medium of a coupling member 14. The machine 4 moves forward as the set-pipe 12 is rotated, and a cylindrical cutter 37 attached at the point of the set-pipe 12 advances in the ground through an entrance pipe 13. And thus, the cylindrical cutter 37 bores forward the ground to insert the set-pipe 12. Simultaneously the soft ground is consolidated and strengthened, and a continuous bearing is formed with the soil at the outside of the set-pipe 12 because an external surface of the cylindrical cutter 37 slopes downward toward the point. Furthermore, a proper amount of water, whose backward flow is checked by the stopper B, is mixed with the shaved soil at the inside of the set-pipe 12, and the shaved soil can be smoothly carried backward for discharging.
