Abstract

PURPOSE: A printing ink composition having improved solubility in mineral oils, low order and reduced yellowing, with a wide molecular weight distribution, comprising a five-membered ring compound and an alkyd resin obtained from a compound having double bonds and hydroxyl groups.
CONSTITUTION: A printing ink composition comprising a vehicle of an alkyd resin prepared from a resin (A) as part of the polyol component. The resin (A) is obtained by selective hydrogenation of only double bonds of a resin having hydroxyl groups, prepared by reacting (a) a five-membered ring compound, having unsaturated conjugated double bonds of the formula (R is 1W3C organic residue; m+ n=6) or its Diels-Alder reaction product with (b) a compound having polymerizable double bonds and hydroxyl groups in the same molecule. Cyclopentadiene or tricyclopentadiene may be cited as component (a).
