The movement range of head unit 2 is specified to divide the recording region of recording medium 1 into 1st recording region A indicated by solid and slanting lines and 2nd recording region B indicated by dotted and slanting lines. The above-mentioned movement range of head unit 2 is selectively set by controlling the operation of the moving mechanism in accordance with a start instruction signal and stop instruction signal generated on the basis of a detection signal from a position detecting mechanism.
