Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a polymer composition having low melt viscosity and excellent adhesivity and film-forming characteristics, and useful as powder coating, lining material, etc. by heating and reacting Nylon 12 with crystalline polypropylene in the presence of an organic peroxide in the molten state.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of Nylon 12 (e.g. having a relative viscosity of 1.5-1.6 measured in 0.5% cresol solution) and polypropylene having relatively low molecular weight (pref. having a melt index of ≥ 20), is added with an organic peroxide, and made to react at 180-220°C to afford a polymer composition having a melt visco sity of ≤ 300,000 cps at 230°C, and useful as powder coating, etc. The characteristic temperature of the peroxide at which the half life period becomes 1 minute, pref. falls within the reaction temperature rangs. Examples of the peroxide are, di-t-butyl peroxide (186°C), diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide (205°C), ect.
