Abstract
PURPOSE: To cheaply recover hydrogen from coke oven gas by compressing the feed coke oven gas to a predetermined press. after which the compressed gas is washed with methanol at ordinary temp. and introduced into a vacuum adsorber to adsorption-separate constituent gases other than hydrogen gas.
CONSTITUTION: The hydrogen recovering apparatus is mainly composed of methanol washing tower A and vacuum adsorber B. Coke oven gas of ordinary temp. compressed to a predetermined press., e.g. 12atm is supplied to the bottom of tower A from pipe 1 and washed with methanol in at least two steps to shift benzene, toluene, phenol, etc. causing adsorbent contamination into the methanol. The coke oven gas is then fed to adsorber B packed with synthetic zeolite from pipe 2 to adsorption-separate constituent gases other than hydrogen gas, and product high purity hydrogen gas is obtd. from pipe 3.
