Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce industrially availably a rare earth element cpd. contg. little lead cpd. by subjecting an aq. rate earth element cpd. soln. to specified treatment in the presence of a sulfied.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. rare earth element cpd. soln. contg. a lead cpd. as impurity is adjusted to pH 2W7 with NH4OH, NaOH or the like in the presence of H2S, (NH4)2S or metal sulfide, and an adequate amt. of oxalic acid or NH4 salt thereof is added to the soln. to procipitate part of the rare earth element cpd. as oxalate. At this time, the lead cpd. coprecipitates. The oxalic acid or ammonium salt thereof is pref. used in an amt. of about 0.05W0.7 time as much as the rate earth element cpd. by mol. By separation-removing the oxalate precipitate an aq. rate earth elemet cpd. soln. contg. very little lead cpd. is obtd. The rare earth element cpd. is then deposited from the soln. as oxalate, or by adding NH3 it is deposited as hydroxide.
