Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance sensitivity and to prevent color staining, by using a dimethine dye containing a specified pyrazolo 1,5-a pyridine ring or pyrazolo[1,5-a]quinoline ring to spectrally sensitize the emulsion.
CONSTITUTION: A dimethine dye containing the pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridine ring or the pyrazolo 1,5-a quinoline ring in the 2-position of both of which an alkyl group may be substituted, and further containing a heterocyclic ring forming together with Z of the formula a benzothiazole or indolenine ring is added to a silver iodobromide emulsion. For example, gelatin is added to a silver iodobromide emulsion to adjust pH and pAg, potassium chloroaurate or the like is added for fogging, and after adjusting pH and pAg again, the above dimethine dye is added. Moreover, pinakryptol yellow is added as an organic desensitizer, thus permitting high contrast photographic characteristics to be obtained, and staining due to remaining dyes to be prevented. In the formula, R1 to R4 may be same or different, and are H or alkyl, and R1 and R2, and R3 and R4 may form a benzene ring; R5 is alkyl, alkenyl, or aryl; A is H or alkyl; Z is an atomic group needed to complete a 5- or 6-membered N-containing heterocyclic ring; X- is an anion; and m and n are 1 or 2.
