Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve corrosion resistance and wear resistance of a cylinder for printing press by forming a plasma flame-sprayed coat of an alloy on the outside peripheral surface of a cast iron cylinder base member. CONSTITUTION:The outside peripheral surface of a cast iron cylinder base member for use as a base material of an offset press plate drum or the like is subjected to blasting for an activation treatment of a surface roughness of about 20mu. After preheating the cylinder base member to a temperature of 100-150 deg.C, an alloy containing 12-16wt% of Ni, 16-18wt% of Cr, and 2-3wt% of Mo, the remainder being Fe, is flame-sprayed onto the surface of the base member in a thickness of about 300mu by plasme irradiation. Because the alloy composition falls into the range of austenitic stainless steel, the obtained coat has less iron oxides mixed therein, less pin holes present therein, better corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and is minuter in structure than those formed by flame spraying of other materials.
